Cara Huber, MSSW, Supervisee in Social Work

**Cara will begin taking new clients again in February 2025**

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a helper. I first planned to be a nurse, until it became clear that math and science were not among my academic gifts. In my early twenties, I lived briefly in Denver, Colorado where I volunteered with an outreach for homeless and runaway kids. This was a formative experience in my life, and, shortly after, I returned to college to study Social Work. During and after college I worked in a variety of social work settings, including school social work, child advocacy, group counseling with children, foster care, and adoption. After taking time off to raise the 3 children of my beloved husband and myself through their tiny years, I am now reentering the workforce as a therapist. I hold a Bachelors in Social Work from Stephen F. Austin University (2007), and a Masters of Science in Social Work with a clinical focus on child welfare and violence in families from University of Texas in Arlington (2008). I am also a graduate of the Narrative-Focused Trauma Training Certificate 1 program through the Allender Center in Seattle (2022). I currently hold the designation of Supervisee in Social Work as I work towards my LCSW licensure.

During my childhood and adolescence, I experienced some significant emotional and mental struggles. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much support available to help me weather this and the one counseling experience I had was harmful, rather than helpful. I understand the importance of having a voice and the need to have a compassionate guide to help you navigate through the many changes and confusions of both growing up and reconciling with your past. My hope is that I can be the therapist I needed then to those who need it now. I want to provide a safe space for your voice, or the voice of your child, to be heard. I believe in the importance of our stories and that where we’ve been shapes where we are now, but it doesn’t have to be an indicator of where we go. I believe hope, redemption, and healing are available for all, even if the road to get there feels bumpy and endless. I believe God meets us in every chapter of our stories, and often in the ways we least expect it.

My heart is pulled towards counseling children, adolescents, and women, especially in regards to anxiety, depression, abuse & trauma and their long-term effects, & equipping children with the skills they need for healthy self-regulation.
