Evan Pergrim, MA, Resident in Counseling

My name is Evan Pergrim and I am a transplant to the Harrisonburg area by way of many different places, but primarily from the Gulf Coast of Florida. In 2023 I married my wife Alyssa, a two-time graduate of James Madison University, and we moved to Harrisonburg to be part of the team at Journey in 2024.

My life and faith have been a journey to say the least. I grew up in the Methodist Church in a Christian home. Despite going to church regularly, I did not develop a relationship with Jesus until I was a junior in high school. From that time on, my life has been a series of ups and downs, all of which the Lord has walked with me through. One of the most challenging seasons for me was when I lost two jobs in the field of architecture within the span of 2 years. This seemed like the unexpected closing of doors that I thought was my lifelong career, but God had other plans. After seeking professional counseling and the counsel of many friends and family, I decided to pursue a career in counseling. I graduated with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in 2022 and have been practicing as a Christian counselor ever since.

I see counseling as an opportunity to come alongside clients to help them through whatever they may be going through with the help and direction of the Lord. God has the answers, and the more we seek him and lay down our own understanding the more we find hope in knowing that we do not have to have all of the answers. I have had the privilege to work with clients, couples and families of all ages and backgrounds. It is a joy and a blessing that I get to do this work each and every day and I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of your journey.
